Large Savings with Ergobjörn Automatic Truck
Ulricehamn, November 2010 - The Autotruck from Helge Nyberg AB is in focus when Thorn Lighting AB in Landskrona Sweden, switch to Lean Manufacturing and increase efficiency in production. ”It was flexible and quick to install”, says Thorn about the investment already paid for itself.
Ergobjörn Autotruck is a convenient and strong automatic truck. Not much larger than an automatic lawn mover, it is monitored via a reflex tape on the floor, which is easily adjustable to present need. So, when Thorn Lighting AB, a unit in the German Zumtobel group, started their large improvement project, Ergobjörn Autotruck became an important part of the solution.
The internal materials handling was made more efficient by reorganising the product range, materials supply and the production lines.
As a part of this solution, Ergobjörn Autotruck is used for product groups requiring a very flexible solution. Three Autotrucks now take care of work that previously required three manned forklift trucks.
- We encountered some scepticism in the beginning, but as soon as the Autotrucks were up and running, there were just recommendations. Just the fact that it only took two hours to install is impressive. Our solution is exported to other Zumtobel factories in German, United Kingdom and Austria, says Ola Johansson, Supply Manager at Thorn Lighting Nordic.
The result is a warehouse in order, a minimum number of pallets in production and On-Time-Delivery on the shop floor. Assembly personnel can work with assembling whilst warehouse personnel are responsible for internal logistics.
- With such increased efficiency, the Autotruck is an investment that quickly pays for itself, says Markus Breuer, Senior Consultant at Kiendl LeanConsult, who has been part of leading the project in Landskrona.
-The forklift operators who were replaced by Autotrucks now have other duties, which further improves efficiency in the warehouse and materails handling, says Patrik Nilsson, Process Owner at Thorn Lighting AB.
